WARNING: SPORTS RELATED! YOU MIGHT NOT CARE!
Phil Jackson brought up an interesting point yesterday in a pre-game interview: The ‘98 Bulls, best known for their record 72-10 record, had a major advantage I never realized: Luc Longley.
No, just kidding, it was the fact that they were located in Chicago.
Phil said being a team from Chicago is so much easier travel wise because you’re right in the middle of the country. You rarely have to travel more than a 2-3 hours to get anywhere. He said he thinks this Laker team doesn’t have “any chance” to get to that mark simply because of fatigue.
Never thought of that!

why are we still talking about the lakers? celtics are 18-2. Lakers lost the Finals. Celtics have the lakers back under their foot.

Phil has always been a master of psychological motivation and subliminal tactics, aside from that the Celts better not sleep on the Cavaliers. Don’t forget it took a career defining performancio from Pierce to ice the east finals.

as someone originally from the milwaukee area, i must ask: what excuse do the bucks have? i guess playing in the midwest still doesn’t make up for the fact that they have no fan base and no talent. the nba is difficult to watch anyway. there’s absolutely no defense. college basketball is so much ace. the guys actually have something to prove and have to go hard every game… then when they get to the nba they make $10 million a year and are set for life after one season, and that’s when it goes downhill.

Phil must be following the NFL as they have been talking about west coast teams going to the east coast to play games and how the loss of time change has hurt them.
West coast teams in the nfl on the east coast this season are 1-15, with their first win being last week, (Week 13).
December 4th, 2008 @ 6:41 pm
that actually makes a lot of sense.
December 5th, 2008 @ 1:38 am
your face just graced my myspace homescreen in the form of a clip of you from the workshop j&a.
you’ve finally made it. the top.
December 5th, 2008 @ 4:24 pm
but…you are a die-hard Lakers fan.
Did you give up your West Coast roots completely?
December 5th, 2008 @ 6:26 pm
Excuses, excuses.
But yeah, that does make sense.
December 5th, 2008 @ 6:30 pm
the difference between the nba travel schedule and the nfl schedule is just the total amount of games played as it wears down on you more in the nba. the west coast teams in the nfl have a 1-15 record because of the schedule, the nfc west is playing the afc east, one of the worst conferences in the league against one of the best. the lakers this year also dont have a chance because while the do have the deepest team in the league, they do not match the starting five of the bulls team.
December 5th, 2008 @ 7:35 pm
why don’t they just get a faster airplane, or better players?
December 5th, 2008 @ 9:10 pm
I’d like to point out that it was actually the 95-96 bulls who went 72-10, not the 98 bulls. I do agree about the west coast travel bias however…

You’re close with Luc Langley, but in reality the key to success was always Steve Kerr
December 6th, 2008 @ 3:05 am
wrong again…not Luc Longley or Steve Kerr, the true key was Jud Buechler
December 6th, 2008 @ 8:25 pm
no everyone knows the key to a championship was phil jackson, as that is the only correlation. Although one could make the arguement that Robert Parish was the key, as he had won several with the celtics before playing a reserve role with the Bulls. I would have to say all in all, the key to winning a championship is playing in a city not named Oklahoma City…
December 9th, 2008 @ 9:53 am
GO CAVS!! Lebron for MVP!
December 20th, 2008 @ 4:56 pm
Yeah but the Celtics are going to finish 76-6 and they are way on the East Coast.
I hate that this will happen.

the bulls 72-10 run was in ‘96, not ‘98.
